There’s something weird going on at the Coach & Horses Inn…
There have been unexplained robberies in town, a mysterious man wrapped in bandages and some lousy cooking. Join us on next Tuesday night, January 31st at 7pm for the wonderfully wacky performance of The Invisible Man.

This week we join many other Catholic schools around the country in celebrating Catholic Schools Week. This year’s theme is Catholic Schools: Faith. Academics. Service.

Catholic schools improve our entire nation by producing students committed to highly productive, service oriented lives. Our schools welcome and educate students of various races, nationalities & religions, Research shows that Catholic school graduates earn higher household incomes and perform more community service.

At a time when the automobile industry and banks are seeking billions in federal bailouts, the National Catholic Educational Association estimates that Catholic schools provide 20 billion in annual savings for the nations taxpayers and employ more that 151,000 full-time staff members.

Ultimately, excellent academic results are one of the true returns on an investment in Catholic education. Catholic school students score well above the national average on tests of reading, math science and social studies, as well as the SATs. Among Catholic high school students , NCEA reports that 99% graduate and 85% go on to college.

Demographic shifts and huge changes in staffing and cost structures have had an impact on student enrollment nationwide. Catholic education’s traditional parish model is also changing. Parish schools increasingly reach beyond the boundaries of a particular parish or town and draw studies from much wider geographic regions.

The need of financial support in our school is great. Tuition funds teachers’ salaries but the true cost of education is higher than tuition. The difference is made up from fundraising efforts and charitable donations.

For the future, we affirm all that makes Catholic Education vital to our nation: rigorous curriculum, talented teachers, faith formation, actively engaged parents, students who are motivated to learn, and a climate of respect and personal responsibility. We stress high moral values important to the church and the wider community

Family Day Reminder

Family Day will be held this Thursday, January 26th from 12 to 1 pm. This day is always a wonderful part of our Catholic Schools Week celebration. Parents are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for your picnic, as seating will be limited. Parking will also be limited, so we will have the La Reina gates open for walk in traffic . Parents may park on the street or use both of the parking lots adjacent to the north and south ends of the school. Please plan to be to share this day with your children, as children who do not have a family member here feel left-out.

Grade 7 Christian Service sponsored-Community Service Day Alumni& Faculty /Staff VS. Jr. High students’ volleyball match after school. Admission: A can of food for local food bank

Wednesday, January 25 Student Appreciation Day

Non Uniform Dress and Lunch provided, extra recess

Thursday, January 26 Family Day 12 to 1 pm

Wear Jeans for $1.00 Day

Friday, January 27 Teacher Appreciation Day –Parents and students are encouraged to write notes of appreciation to teach

Saturday, January 28 Catholic Schools Week Mass at 5 pm in the church Distinguished Graduated Award presented

Open House and Book Fair at school after mass until 7:45 pm

First Penance, Monday, January 30th

On Monday, January 30th all children enrolled in the Parish Sacrament Program will gather at the church with their families to receive the Sacrament of First Penance. We ask all of our families to keep these students in your prayers on this special day in their lives. The Penance service begins at 7:00 pm

Feast of St. Blaise

On Friday, February 3rd is the feast of St. Blaise. We will attend the 8:15 a.m. mass at the church. St. Blaise was a physician and Bishop and was known as a healer of men and animals. Legend has it that animals would come to him on their own for help, but would never disturb him at prayer. St. Blaise is said to have once saved a small boy who was choking. After this he was known as someone who could heal diseases of the throat. During the mass we will have the blessing of the throats. All parents are invited to join us at this mass. Please remember that this will be a dress uniform day for all students.

Need hours? Please remember that our newsletter/website are the best resources in helping you complete your service hours and fundraising.

Just a few reminders all service hours/fundraising must be completed by April 30, 2012. If you need help in fulfilling your service hour or fundraising obligations, please feel free to contact me. Upcoming event: Catholic Schools Week, parents are needed to assist with the Student Appreciation Day Lunch. See the sign-up sheet in the office.

Applications for 2012-2013 School Year

All parents who have children they would like to enroll in our school are invited to complete and return the Contact Form to the school office. This form is available on the school website. After we receive the contact form we will call you to set up a testing appointment for your child. Please contact Mrs. Davis in the development office for more information on the Application Process.
