Just a friendly reminder that the All Saint’s project is Due Tuesday, November 1st. The students may turn in their projects ahead of time if they wish. Tuesday is the day the students are invited to dress up as their favorite Saint or biblical character. We will also have our class parties on that day. We will be attending mass that morning. We look forward to seeing all of our “Saints” on that day!
I look forward to seeing all of you at parent-teacher conferences! Please note that all week the children have half-days. They will be dismissed at 12:35pm. We have no school this Friday, October 28th, and no school Monday, October 31st. Thank you!
This week we received our first batch of pen pal letters. Our pen pals are second grade students from St. Joseph’s school in Hawthorne, CA. Be sure to ask your child who their pen pal is and something special they learned about them. We will write as often as possible to our pen pals and this will help students master the standard of learning to write a friendly letter. We hope to be able to meet our pen pals at the end of the school year.
This week we will begin our ITBS testing. The ITBS tests are the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills. It is vital for your student’s success that he/she gets a good nights sleep and eats a healthy breakfast. Homework will be light during these next two weeks to allow students ample time to prepare to do their very best. Good luck to all students!
Each week members of the parish gather in the school kitchen to make sandwiches that are delivered to the homeless on skid row. On one Tuesday a month, for their Christian Service Project, our second grade students bake cookies for the Parish Sandwich Program. Each student is asked to bring in a packaged cookie dough and the second graders assemble in the school hall to shape and bake the cookies. Our students enjoy this activity and learn about the importance of giving to others in need.
Welcome students and parents back to another exciting school year at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School! My name is Miss Amanda Kraivanger and I will be your second grade teacher. We will be learning a lot this year on our journey together. We will work very hard together to achieve all of the goals we set. I can’t wait to meet all of you and get to know you. Blessings, Miss Kraivanger
All students in Grade 2 are invited to the Family Mass next Saturday, February 12th at 5:00 p.m. in the church. The children’s choir will be singing at the mass.
“Catholic Schools-A+ for America”
The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2011 celebrates the fact that Catholic schools are an added value (“a plus”) for the nation. Because of their traditionally high academic standards and high graduation rates, all supported by strong moral values, Catholic schools and their graduates make a definite contribution to American society. Catholic schools give a high level of service (the A+ level) to local communities because of the many service projects students undertake. “Giving back to the community” and “helping others” are values instilled in every Catholic school student. Catholic schools give a high level of service to the nation (the A+ level) by serving students from all economic backgrounds and giving them a strong academic and moral foundation, allowing them to succeed in life, serving in the government, industry, business, non-profit and educational fields.
At OLPH this week we will have many activities where we celebrate what is unique about our Catholic school. We have invited members of ARC to play kick-ball with us as one community on Monday. On Tuesday we will celebrate Community Day. We will honor our wonderful students on Wednesday with Student Appreciation Day. On Thursday all of our families are invited to eat lunch with their child for Family Day. On Friday we will have Teacher Appreciation Day. All week long we will have our book fair open. On Saturday, January 29th, 2011 we have our Catholic Schools Week mass and Open House will follow the mass.
Thank you for choosing a Catholic education for your child!
