5th grade Trade Fair

The 5th grade had there annual Trade Fair today! This activity demonstrated how Colonial America bartered goods. Students made bookmarks, jewelry, picture frames, and a variety of other wonderful hand-crafted items to “trade” with their fellow classmates.

Groundhog Day Special Cupcakes

You can help in 3 ways:

Donate 40 cupcakes with PLAIN frosting (smooth, any flavor, no sprinkles or decorations)

Donate any of the following supplies: (circle one)

40 Fun Size Butterfinger bars (approximate size: 2 inches)

1 bag MINI M&Ms (found in the baking section) MINI, not regular size.
**These are also sold in small plastic tubes at grocery store checkouts. If you get the tubes, we will need about 7-8.

2 boxes regular Mike & Ikes candy (These are white and pink)

Come and help the children decorate the cupcakes. (we will need about 6 parents to help)

Drama Club presents: “The Invisible Man”

There’s something weird going on at the Coach & Horses Inn…
There have been unexplained robberies in town, a mysterious man wrapped in bandages and some lousy cooking. Join us on next Tuesday night, January 31st at 7pm for the wonderfully wacky performance of The Invisible Man.

Tickets are on sale every day after school. Student ticket prices are only $3.00. Get your tickets before they disappear!

Exploring explorers

The 5th grade class is continuing their work on life-sized explorer posters. They will be proudly displayed during Catholic Schools Week at the end of the month.

Christmas Fun

The 5th graders had an exciting week before Christmas. Cookie baking, Game Day, Christmas Program, creating ornaments and having a fun classroom party filled our week with holiday joy!

Frost Painting

The 5th grade students had memorized and recited Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken” and are working on creating fall-themed watercolor artwork to represent the woods in the poem.

FYB Pumpkin Activity

The 4th and 5th grade classes were perfectly pleased with with pumpkin estimation activity today. Working in small groups, the students measured the height, weight and circumference of each pumpkin. Then they estimated how many seeds would be inside of their pumpkin. After a teacher removed the top of the pumpkin, the students dove right in, pulled out the “guts” and counted each seed. One 17-pound pumpkin had 546 seeds! Now if only we could have made pumpkin pie…

spelling spiders

The students have been brainstorming lists of words that have an initial hard C /k/ sound, and soft C /s/ sound. After proofreading the spellings, each students created a spooky spider (or does it look more like an octopus?) that displays eight words with those initial sounds.

Some of the kids turned the scraps into facial hair….

Drama Club “The Invisible Man”

Attention Drama Club members:

To prepare for your role in the play, please:
Read through the whole play
Take special notice of your character’s stage directions
Rehearse your lines by saying them–out loud
Count how many lines you have, and memorize HALF of your lines by
the end of October.

REMEMBER: NO Drama Club next week due to parent teacher conferences, so you really MUST rehearse and practice your lines yourself over the next week.

Beginning NOVEMBER 2nd, Drama Club will meet TWICE a WEEK, each week until the play. (The play will most likely be scheduled for the last week of November) Drama Club will meet on WEDNESDAYS and THURSDAYS from 3:30-4:15.
