OLPH Boys A Football bring home the League Campionship!

Congratulations to the 2011 OLPH Boys Varsity Flag Football Team. They completed a great season by  winning the Southland Conference League Championship with a  9 – 0  record and qualifying for the CYO Play-offs.  The Trojans worked very hard all year to establish themselves as one of the best teams in the Southern Region.  Congratulations to the Trojans for memorable year.

Girl’s A Volleyball

Congratulations to all the girl’s for bringing home a Consolation Championship Trophy from this past weekend’s tournament. They all played well and it turned out to be a very fun day! Thursday’s home game against Our Lady of Fatima looks to be for the league championship. Hope most can attend and support the team.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help School participates in the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) of Los Angeles.  CYO conducts and oversees the athletic program for Catholic elementary and middle schools.  CYO assists its member schools in instilling Catholic values in sports programs and helps to educate the whole child.  Through the CYO athletic program, students have the opportunity to compete with students enrolled in other Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.  These athletic activities provide a wholesome outlet for athletes’ physical energy while strengthening the athletes’ spiritual and social values.

 

Our Lady of Perpetual Help School offers the following CYO A and B Sports Team activities for students in grades 5-8:

Trojan Cross Country

The OLPH Cross Country team has begun their training!  Thirteen 5th-8th graders have joined and will spend the next several weeks preparing for the October 23rd CYO Invitational at Legg Lake.  The 5th and 6th graders will compete in a 1 mile race, while the 7th and 8th graders will hope for their personal best in a 1.5 mile race.  Those runners who qualify for the CYO Championships will compete at Kenneth Hahn Park on November 11th.  You can find them all training with Miss Lang in the school parking lot and on the sidewalks of Downey on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, so be sure to cheer them on when you do!

 

Girls’ B Volleyball

The Girls’ B Volleyball team will have a team meeting after school today for approximately one hour.  All players should have the completed paperwork turned in by then..  The first practice will be on Wednesday, September 21st after school until 4:30 pm.

We are now accepting sign ups for the Girl’s B Volleyball Team. B Volleyball is for girls in 5th & 6th grade. No volleyball experience is necessary just a desire to learn the game. Please pick up the Athletic Packet in the office and return it with all necessary signatures and athletic fees. Team meeting, parent meeting and practice will begin next week.

Touch Down for the Trojans!!! If you are in the 7th or 8th grade and would like to play football please pick up the packet in the front office. Practice will begin on Monday, August 29 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Be sure your paperwork has been turned in before Monday.
